Background
For 20 years Shujaat invested in high growth companies in India with a common value system of making a difference. Shujaat co-founded Blue River Capital and was a General Partner at Chryscapital – both being private equity firms managing capital for endowments, foundations, family offices and financial institutions. He was also a co-founding partner/CEO of Centrum Alternatives, a multi-strategy asset manager. Shujaat helped build landmark market leaders in fintech/financial services, mobility, consumer brands and tech, green infrastructure and alternate energy, textiles, and IT and business process outsourcing. Many of these companies were disruptors and transformers in not only their economic models, but also in how they approached issues relating to workforce, community, environment, and governance. Through fund and managed account structures, he invested across venture, growth equity, public equity and private debt.
Prior to investing in India, Shujaat was part of the m&a / financial institutions team with Merrill Lynch in Asia. Shujaat started his career with Travelers Group/Primerica in their corporate development team working on acquisitions and integration of financial services companies.
Shujaat has a BA in Economics from University of Rochester and MBA from Harvard Business School.
Shujaat also serves as Senior Advisor to Climate Policy Initiative, a global climate policy think tank, school for underprivileged children in India, and vocational training academy for women in India.
